Absence, By Design.
Absence, by design is not a lack—it’s an advantage. Omission creates autonomous platforms that replace human presence with precision, resilience, and intelligence where it matters most.
Our Story
Omission’s story begins with a fundamental question: Why do we continue to place people in environments where technology can operate more safely, more efficiently, and with greater persistence?
Founded in Maine by engineers with deep experience in unmanned aviation, defense systems, and advanced manufacturing, Omission emerged from years of building reliable systems for missions where failure was not an option. That work exposed a clear gap in the maritime domain, that gap being autonomous surface vessels were either prohibitively expensive, narrowly specialized, or dependent on fragmented supply chains that limited adaptability and trust.
Omission was built to change that. From the outset, the company has deliberately kept system design, software, electronics, fabrication, and final assembly in-house. This approach allows Omission to move quickly, iterate intelligently, and maintain complete control over performance, quality, and security. It also enables the creation of platforms that are modular and mission-agnostic. Systems that are designed once, then configured many ways to support defense, research, commercial, and environmental operations.
Proudly designed and manufactured in Maine, Omission’s systems reflect the realities of operating in demanding maritime environments. The company’s facilities support everything from precision machining and composites to autonomy development and testing, ensuring that every system is engineered with intent and for real-world missions.
“Absence, by design” is not a slogan - it is the ethos behind every decision Omission makes. By deliberately removing human presence from risk-intensive, costly, or impractical operations, Omission replaces exposure with autonomy, extending reach and redefining what is possible on the water.

Christian Taylor
Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Christian Taylor is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Omission, where he leads the end-to-end design, engineering, and manufacturing of autonomous maritime and unmanned systems for defense, research, and commercial applications. He is responsible for product strategy, system architecture, manufacturing operations, and direct engagement with customers operating in demanding, real-world environments.
Christian brings extensive hands-on experience across precision manufacturing, high-tolerance machining, composites, and autonomous systems integration. Prior to founding Omission, he served as Principal Designer and Manufacturing Lead at Viking Unmanned Aerial Systems, where he developed and fielded advanced unmanned platforms for public safety and government use. Earlier in his career, he held production and operations roles at Pratt & Whitney, working within FAA-regulated aerospace manufacturing environments focused on quality, process control, and operational reliability.
He holds Bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, as well as an Associate degree in Precision Manufacturing and Machining. Christian’s leadership is guided by a systems-first philosophy, prioritizing vertical integration, manufacturability, and operational realism to deliver autonomous platforms that extend human capability while reducing risk, cost, and dependence on human presence.
